mISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Spokane Society of Internal Medicine is to provide medical professionalism, medical education, and to provide the highest level of assistance and information to its members. 

"Our mission is to provide medical professionalism, medical education and the highest level of assistance and information to our members"

This is accomplished by:

  • promoting internal medicine as a specialty in the Spokane area,
  • providing closer association and good fellowship among those practicing internal medicine,
  • offering members a better knowledge of the methods and work of other internists,
  • providing an educational forum annually to the medical community.
  • evaluating the economic, social, and political aspects of medicine in order to secure and maintain the highest standards of practice in internal medicine.

 

history:

The Spokane Society of Internal Medicine was founded in June, 1949.  The original Constitution and Bylaws were signed on June 27, 1949 at the organizational meeting held at the home of Dr. Joseph H. Delaney.  In 1949 the society consisted of 12 original officers and charter members.  The original officers and charter members were:

The first annual meeting of the Spokane Society of Internal Medicine was held on Saturday, May 13, 1950 at the Spokane Club in Spokane, Washington.  Cost of attendance was $7.50.  The guest speaker for the meeting was Robert H. Williams, M.D., F.A.C.P., Professor and Executive Officer of the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington.  150 Pacific Northwest physicians attended the meeting.
